The New Zealand Laser high performance sailors would like to thank Pub Charity for their generous support in enabling sailors to compete with new equipment. This has contributed to the numerous outstanding performances from our sailors this year.
Sail Auckland Lasers move to Takapuna for 2011
Following a flurry of recent discussions that included our own 'Dear Leader' (Nick Page), the Sail Auckland regatta for some classes has moved to Takapuna for 2011. This change includes Laser Standard and Laser Radial.
In past years the event has been ably hosted by Kohimarama YC. But a change in venue was agreed in an effort to get more stable wind off Takapuna. February can be fickle off Aucklands Eastern Bay beaches, including Kohi and Tamaki.
The change was supported by Yachting NZ and representatives of our elite sailors as Sail Auckland is a ranking regatta along with the NZ Nationals. Following the successful 2008 Laser Radial World Champs we also hope the Takapuna 'brand' will help sell the Sail Auckland option to overseas sailors and others from around NZ.
NZLA is grateful to Takapuna Boating Club for agreeing to host the event. A significant effort given multiple classes must be started across 2 courses. The planning for the event has already begun with a Notice of Race expected soon.
Auckland is now looking at a festival of Laser Sailing in early 2011, with the Laser Nationals at Torbay from 21-25 January, Sail Auckland at Takapuna from 3-6 February, most likely followed by Laser 4.7s at Juniour Sail Auckland some time in the following weeks, with details yet to be announced.
